Vallejo's climb has been a national project as much as a personal one. Coming from a country with almost no professional tennis infrastructure, he leaned on ITF and Grand Slam player grants — awarded in 2023 and again in 2026 — to fund the travel that a South American schedule demands, and on daily counsel from Ramón Delgado, the last Paraguayan to live inside the top 100. The results arrived in a rush in early 2026: back-to-back clay Challenger titles in Itajaí and Concepción in January, a tour-level debut in Santiago where he became the first Paraguayan to win an ATP match since Delgado in 2010, and a Challenger final in Brasília that lifted him to No. 99 in March.
"For me, all of this is historic." — After beating Grigor Dimitrov in Madrid, 2026 (Tennis TV on-court interview)
The spring confirmed it was no ranking quirk. As a qualifier in Madrid he beat Grigor Dimitrov 6-4, 6-4 for Paraguay's first Masters 1000 match win since 2010 and reached the third round; at Roland Garros he won the country's first Grand Slam main-draw match since Delgado at the 2003 US Open. By July, a semifinal run in Båstad had carried him to a career-high No. 63.
"I'm very South American! I think that's the best thing to know about me."
