The Breakthrough

Wong's rise has been a series of firsts for a place with no ATP pedigree. In March 2025 he edged 13th seed Ben Shelton in a Miami deciding-set tie-break for his first win over a top-20 player; that August he came through US Open qualifying and became the first Hong Kong man of the Open Era to win a Grand Slam main-draw match, backing it up with a four-set win over Adam Walton to reach the third round. In January 2026 he brought the run home, knocking out Mariano Navone and world No. 40 Gabriel Diallo as a wildcard at the Hong Kong Open.

"Sometimes people don't believe we can do it, and this shows them that." — On making history for Hong Kong, Macao News, 2025

The result that put him on this tracker came in Jiujiang, China, where he beat Adam Walton again — 7-5, 7-6(4) in the final — to become the first player from Hong Kong to win an ATP Challenger title. The points from that week carried him to No. 110 and, weeks later, a career-high No. 108, within sight of the top-100 goal he named after New York.
