The Breakthrough

Simakin is a 22-year-old from Kazan, 1.93 m (6 ft 4) tall, right-handed with a two-handed backhand, and almost entirely a hard-court player — 188–80 of his 207–101 career record has come on the surface. He spent 2024 grinding out Futures titles, added a doubles gold medal at the 2025 World University Games competing as an Individual Neutral Athlete, and began 2026 in Vietnam: runner-up to Kwon Soon-woo at the Phan Thiết Challenger in January, then champion at Phan Thiết II a fortnight later, his first Challenger title.

September is what moved him. On 6 September he won the International Challenger Zhangjiagang (CH75, $107,000) without dropping a set after the first round, beating Kasidit Samrej 6–3, 6–1 in the final for $17,000 and 75 ranking points. He flew to Vietnam and won Phan Thiết III on 13 September, beating Arthur Weber 6–4, 7–6(5). Seven days later he did it again at Phan Thiết IV, recovering from a set down to beat third seed Rodrigo Pacheco Méndez 6–7(4), 6–4, 6–3.

That is three Challenger titles in three consecutive weeks and 15 straight match wins — four titles on the season in all. The reward was a 26-place jump in the 21 September ATP release to a career-high No. 151. He has no published interviews in English to date, so this dossier stays with the record: a big server on hard courts, 43–17 for the year, and closing on the top 100 for the first time.
