The Breakthrough

Vandromme grew up in Sint-Kruis, on the edge of Bruges, and picked up a racket at five because her older sister and brother played. She was a ball kid at Kim Clijsters' academy. Alongside school, where she studied Latin, she trained as a classical pianist at the Conservatory of Bruges, giving it up roughly two years before her breakthrough to concentrate on tennis. In September 2025 she arrived at Flushing Meadows on a 23-match winning streak and left with the US Open girls' singles title — the first Belgian to win it since Kirsten Flipkens in 2003. Seven weeks later she won the year-end ITF World Tennis Tour Junior Finals in Chengdu, beating the top seed in two and a half hours.

What makes the senior climb unusual is that none of it has happened on the WTA Tour. She has never played a tour-level main draw or a Grand Slam main draw; the ranking has been built on the ITF circuit and, this July, across two WTA 125 weeks. At Contrexéville she reached her first 125 final without dropping a set, then led Mayar Sherif 5–0 in the second set and held a match point before losing 6–3, 6–7(0), 5–7 in about three hours. A quarterfinal in Kitzbühel the following week finished the job: No. 161 to a career-high No. 128, at eighteen.
