Born in Johannesburg to a South African mother and an Austrian father and raised in Hard on Lake Constance, the 6'2" left-hander was the ITF junior world No. 1 in January 2024, won the 2023 ITF Junior Masters in Chengdu (the first Austrian to do so) and took the 2024 Roland Garros boys' doubles title. He converted that pedigree fast: in May 2024, aged 18 and ranked around No. 664, he beat Kamil Majchrzak to win his first Challenger in Skopje — while still holding the junior No. 1 ranking. Based at the ÖTV performance centre in Südstadt and mentored by Jürgen Melzer, he added a second Challenger title in Kigali in March 2026.
"It means a lot, especially after some tough weeks behind me" — after winning the Mazovia Open Challenger; via ATP Tour, 10 August 2026
August 2026 turned a rough patch into the breakthrough. Having lost seven of his previous eight matches, he swept to the Mazovia Open Challenger title in Grodzisk Mazowiecki — beating Andrea Guerrieri 7–6(4), 6–1 in the final and winning all four tiebreaks he played that week — for his third Challenger trophy and a career-high No. 150 on 10 August. This Monday's dip to No. 171 is just last year's Sofia finalist points falling off the computer: he arrives at US Open qualifying as the 20th seed, sits fourth in the ATP Next Gen Race, and has just earned his first Davis Cup nomination for Austria's September tie against Belgium.
"Happy to have kept working and fighting through it."
