The Breakthrough

Riedi's rise has been interrupted more than most. A right-knee injury suffered during US Open qualifying in 2024 required surgery that September; a setback in practice forced a second operation in January 2025. He returned in May 2025 ranked outside the top 400, qualified at Wimbledon, and then produced one of the stories of the season in New York: from No. 435, he came through qualifying, beat Pedro Martínez for his first Grand Slam match win, outlasted 19th seed Francisco Cerúndolo in five sets, and reached the fourth round — the lowest-ranked man to make a major's last 16 in over two decades. Weeks later a groin problem demanded a third surgery, and his season was over again.

The 2026 comeback followed the same stubborn script. Carrying a 6-8 record into April, Riedi won the Busan Challenger from a set down in the final against Bu Yunchaokete — his fifth Challenger title and first trophy since January 2024 — jumping 40 places to No. 129, the week Rising Tennis Tracker featured him. By mid-June he had pushed on to a new career-high of No. 116, finally passing the mark he set before the injuries began.
