Van Assche's first rise was fast: French Open boys' champion at 17, top-100 debut at 18, world No. 63 at 19, when he and Arthur Fils were the ATP's two highest-ranked teenagers. What followed was harder — injuries and a loss of confidence sent him sliding outside the Top 200, and less than six months before his return he was still stuck there, asking himself the questions every slumping prospect asks.
"Today, thanks to this win, I'm back in the Top 100." — After winning the Lille Challenger, February 2026 · ATPTour.com
The turnaround began at the Olbia Challenger in October 2025, his first title in more than two years. He then opened 2026 by winning the Quimper Challenger in early February and, weeks later, the Play In Challenger in Lille — beating Belgium's Alexander Blockx 6-2, 6-4 in the final after saving a match-point situation earlier in the week. The Lille title made him the first player to win five Challenger 125-level trophies and lifted him back inside the Top 100 for the first time in 21 months.
