The younger sister of former world No. 8 Veronika Kudermetova announced herself in Brisbane in January 2025: as a qualifier she won five straight main-draw matches — 13th seed Liudmila Samsonova among them, plus her first career top-10 win over No. 9 Daria Kasatkina — and took the first set off world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final before falling in three. The run vaulted her roughly 50 spots to No. 57, and by April she stood at a career-high No. 54. A leaner second half of 2025 dropped her back outside the top 100, and in December came the bigger change: announced on December 15, 2025, she switched sports citizenship to represent Uzbekistan from 2026 — instantly the Uzbek No. 2 — with the federation calling her arrival a significant boost for its tennis.

2026 has been a rebuild through the qualifying grind. She won a round at the Australian Open, reached two WTA 125 finals (Canberra and Oeiras), fell one win short in Roland Garros qualifying, then qualified at Wimbledon. The payoff came in Washington in late July: through qualifying again, she recovered from a set and a break down to beat No. 40 Cristina Bucsa 5–7, 7–6(4), 6–0 — her first top-50 win since Indian Wells 2025 — and pushed world No. 10 Elina Svitolina to a first-set tie-break in the round of 16. A day after Washington ended she qualified for the WTA 1000 in Toronto. This week she is back up to No. 103 and climbing toward the top 100 under a new flag.
