The Breakthrough

Jódar spent most of 2025 living a double life: a University of Virginia student who kept winning professional tournaments. Three Challenger titles — Hersonissos in August, then back-to-back in Lincoln and Charlottesville in the autumn — carried him from far outside the top 500 in the spring to a year-end ranking inside the top 170, and earned him a place at the Next Gen ATP Finals in Jeddah. There he opened by beating top seed Learner Tien from four match points down, and within days he had announced the end of his college career and the start of his professional one.

The new year validated the decision almost immediately. In January he reached the Canberra Challenger final, then won three matches to qualify for the Australian Open — his first Grand Slam main draw — and outlasted fellow qualifier Rei Sakamoto in a three-hour, fifty-one-minute five-setter for his first major win before falling to 16th seed Jakub Mensik. That fortnight of work pushed his ranking to new highs and set up the season that followed: a first ATP title in Marrakech, a quarter-final on debut at Roland Garros, and a top-25 ranking by June.
