The Breakthrough

Six years after her junior Australian Open title made her the most famous athlete in a country of 80,000, Jimenez Kasintseva finally cracked the barrier no Andorran had ever reached. At the Mérida Open in early 2026 she came through qualifying and ground her way to the quarterfinals, the run built on a 3-hour, 20-minute second-round win over former top-20 player Magda Linette — tied for the fourth-longest tour-level match of the season. The result vaulted her 25 places, from No. 122 to No. 97, making her the first player from Andorra, male or female, to enter the world's Top 100.

She kept climbing: a second-round appearance against Naomi Osaka at Indian Wells preceded a career-high No. 89 on 16 March 2026. Through the spring clay swing she stayed in the Top 110, beating Lulu Sun at the Rome WTA 1000, and by summer she had added a Wimbledon main-draw debut — her second Grand Slam main draw in under a year.
